Entering the college and the entire college application process can be a stressful journey for students and parents. From 1999 to 2005, as a mother of four years, I spent hours helping, giving advice and entertaining our children because they applied for college. Each of our four children is a unique individual who needs things different from us as parents because they apply to college. We have an independent child, who almost did it himself. We have a procrastinator that requires more guidance and encouragement. We have adventurers who want to go away from home and explore other parts of the country. We have more experience intending to apply for many schools, just to make sure he has many choices. For each child, the college application process is different. As parents, you want to help them but don’t take over. You want to help them with their search to enter their choice campus but keep them.
My first suggestion: Stay calm, sometimes biting your tongue, being supported and offering help but don’t be arrogant. Above all, don’t do everything for them. As head, you will also receive many requests from college consultants, which costs will help your students complete this process. However, it is my personal belief that if they really want to go to college, they must be willing to put their own time and energy to complete the application. There is a lot of free information throughout the internet, as well as in their respective schools and on all lecture websites, to help them through a college application process. Save your money for all future costs as they are accepted and registered at school.
Next, keep in mind that the college application process is probably the first time they have to highlight yourself with a resume or sheet of activity. This is usually the first time they have to be actively looking for someone to serve as their reference through a required recommendation letter. This might also be the first time for many people so they must really think about their future, their goals, and their lives and then enter all of them into written documents .. “The College Application Essay”. So it shows patience and keeps them along the way because they can fight with these tasks. Whenever it might encourage them to open their choices and try not to organize their hearts only at one school. My personal spell along each college application is that each of them will end where they are meant and if not … they can always transfer.
Finally, be honest about what you can. We set the range of tuition fees for the oldest, knowing that while we might be able to give more, we have 3 other lined up like a plane on the runway. We want to be fair for each of them and do not end up with the youngest unable to have the same choice as the oldest. Are we rich independently? Not at all, financial planning financially takes a lot of work and preparation and sacrifice. In addition, we hope that each of them will truly try to investigate scholarship opportunities locally, nationally and with the schools they receive. They all know hope early. It will be a partnership, where we will help and they will also do it. So for all parents and students get ready to register to college now, relax and try to enjoy the trip when you enter this new stage of life.
